Blowing snow and harsh winds can certainly have their way with your home’s exterior this time of year, but would it surprise you to learn that it’s not only exterior items that undergo strain? Squeaks and squeals aren’t good coming from any mechanical object—and your garage door is no exception. Aside from being grating on the ears, it’s a surefire sign that something is wrong. But can that something be fixed with a little lubricant, as it can with so many other machines? And if so, what’s the right type of the stuff to use on your garage door? Will your trusty can of WD40 do the job?

However, while it’s somewhat sheltered, your garage probably isn’t as temperature controlled as, say, your house. This might not seem like an issue until you consider everything that’s stored in it. You probably have temperature-sensitive chemicals in there, like motor oil, and your car can encounter tire pressure problems and battery issues if it gets too cold or hot. Given that we live in Minnesota, that’s practically a guarantee!
